The Maynilad Water Academy recently held a series of workshops for participants from several local water districts and private water service providers.
Representatives from Subic Water, Balibago Water and Prime Water participated in the course on “Water Safety Plan (WSP)” held from December 13 to 14. Spearheaded by Engr. Francisco Arellano, Maynilad Head of Quality, Environment, Safety and Health, and together with officers from the Department of Health (DOH) and the World Health Organization (WHO), the course focused on programs and procedures for safeguarding the water supplied to consumers in case of hazards such as contamination and natural calamities.
A separate course on WHO Guidelines for Drinking Water Quality was also conducted last December 16, with over 60 representatives from Baliwag, Metro Kalibo, Laguna, Metro Lipa, Tanauan, Butuan, San Pedro, Calamba, Cabanatuan, Tarlac, Angeles, San Fernando, Metro Tuguegarao, Carmona, Dasmarinas, and San Pablo Water Districts in attendance. The course sought to further develop concepts and approaches in risk management for ensuring drinking water quality. It was conducted together with the Global Water Partnership, Philippine Water Partnership, and WHO.
In a separate development, Ms. Rodora Gamboa, former general manager of Davao City Water District, has been tapped to head the Maynilad Water Academy. Effective December 12, 2011, Ms. Gamboa will oversee the day-to-day operations and management of the said learning institution.
Maynilad Water Academy is a First Pacific Center of Excellence. It is the first learning institution in the Philippines dedicated to the advancement of the water and wastewater industry. Its goal is to educate students, water professionals and other interested parties on the latest developments and best practices in water resource conservation, water and wastewater management, among others.
