West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) clinched top honors at the 2025 Global Water Awards, being named “SDG6 Champion of the Year” for its employee mobilization and sustainability initiative. The award was presented during the Global Water Summit in Paris, where Maynilad was recognized as the top winner of this category, standing out among water utilities worldwide.
The recognition was given for Maynilad’s “Makialam, Makiisa, Magmalasakit” (3M) Campaign, a company-wide capacity-building program that rallied employees to achieve ambitious 2024 targets focused on expanding access to safe water and sanitation, reducing water losses, and promoting sustainability.
The campaign’s values—“Makialam” (Engage), “Makiisa” (Unite), and “Magmalasakit” (Care)—powered Maynilad’s key operational achievements in 2024. These included reducing non-revenue water from 43% to 39% through aggressive pipe replacement, AI-driven leak detection, and intensified repair efforts. The campaign also supported the production of 1 billion liters of potable water through NEW WATER direct reuse facilities, helping to reduce reliance on Angat Dam, particularly critical amid recurring El Niño conditions.
“This campaign helped translate sustainability goals into tangible results by aligning individual action with corporate purpose. This recognition affirms our commitment to building a resilient and inclusive water future,” said Maynilad Chief Sustainability Officer, Atty. Roel S. Espiritu.
In addition to this latest win, Maynilad has been previously recognized at the Global Water Awards for its Putatan Water Treatment Plant 2 (Award of Distinction, 2020), Parañaque NEW WATER Treatment Plant (Water Reuse Project of the Year, 2023), and Poblacion Water Treatment Plant (Water Project of the Year, 2024).
The Global Water Awards, organized by Global Water Intelligence (GWI), recognize the most significant achievements in the international water sector—celebrating initiatives that advance innovation, performance, and sustainability.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire of Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) in the Philippines in terms of customer base. Its service area includes the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres and Sta.
