Maynilad to adjust water tariff by January

Beginning January 1, 2018, residents in the West Zone will have adjusted water rates as Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) implements an average basic rate adjustment of P0.97/cu.m., equivalent to 2.80% of the P34.51/cu.m. average Basic Charge in 2017, which represents the Consumer Price Index (CPI) adjustment.

The MWSS also granted Maynilad a Foreign Currency Differential Adjustment (FCDA) equivalent to 0.60% as applied to the newly approved 2018 Average Basic Charge of P35.48/cu.m., beginning 1st quarter of 2018.

Despite the downward adjustment of an average of P0.17/cu.m. in the FCDA, the overall impact of the CPI and FCDA adjustments is an increase in the monthly water bills of Maynilad customers for the 1st quarter of 2018.

Maynilad customers consuming 10 cubic meters or less every month (lifeline customers) will see their water bill increase by P2.70 from P118.95 to P121.65,  while those consuming 20 cubic meters every month will see their water bill increase from P445.56 to P455.74, a difference of P10.18. Meanwhile, households consuming 30 cubic meters a month will note an increase of P20.78 in their water bill, from the current P909.54 to P930.32.

FCDA is a tariff mechanism granted to utility companies to allow it to recover losses or give back gains arising from the fluctuating movements of the peso against other currencies. This is because Maynilad pays foreign-dominated Concession Fees to the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), as well as loans to fund service improvement projects.
Since re-privatization in 2007, Maynilad has spent over P140 billion to improve and expand water and wastewater operations in the West Zone. Over 9 million people now have reliable and affordable potable water because of  Maynilad’s aggressive investments. Majority of its customers now have 24-hour water supply, and 100% receive their water supply at an average pressure of 7 psi.

Maynilad  strives to continue its programs to enhance operational efficiency, build more wastewater facilities, and lay pipes that will connect more people to its network, especially those in the Cavite area who still rely on deep wells and expensive water deliveries. This is all in line with the company’s mission to improve the lives of the communities it serves.
Maynilad is an agent and contractor of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain areas), Quezon City (certain areas), Makati (certain areas), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon—all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario—all in Cavite province.
