Metro Pacific Investments Corporation and DMCI Holdings-led Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) has formally taken over the water system of Posadas Village in Muntinlupa City. As a result, the more than 200 households in the said subdivision now enjoy clean, reliable and affordable water 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 28 pounds per square inch (psi) pressure.
 
Prior to the Maynilad takeover, Posadas residents only had an average of four hours water supply a day. Augmenting their water supply needs for the past 25 years were individual deep wells and expensive water deliveries from private vendors.
 
In order to improve water services in the said village, Maynilad has begun replacing and repairing leaky portions of the pipe network. All households were installed with new individual water meters.
 
The expansion of Maynilad’s services to Posadas Village is part of its commitment to its customers and the government. As a concessionaire of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System, Maynilad is required to connect West Zone residents and establishments to its water network to prevent the over-extraction of groundwater, especially in critical areas such as Muntinlupa City.
 
“Studies have shown that groundwater over-extraction poses serious and long-term threats to communities and the environment. We are accelerating our projects in the South because we want to provide our customers to have access to safe, reliable and affordable surface water,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ricky Vargas.
 
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is a concessionaire of the MWSS for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres & Sta. Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of the Holy Spirit & Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; Cavite City, and the towns of Bacoor, Imus, Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
