West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) has surpassed its 2025 reforestation target under its Plant for Life program, planting 185,995 seedlings—equivalent to 103% of its annual goal—across 451 hectares of critical watershed areas.
The reforestation activities were concentrated in the Ipo and La Mesa watersheds, which play a vital role in ensuring the long-term sustainability of Metro Manila’s water supply.
Beyond new planting initiatives in 2025, Maynilad continued its ongoing maintenance and site protection work across reforested areas under the Plant for Life program, including about 1,295 hectares of sites originally developed between 2022 and 2024 that were actively maintained during the year. Since the launch of the program, the company has planted over 1.64 million trees across approximately 2,419.88 hectares of watershed areas.
Annual assessments conducted by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 3 recorded an average tree survival rate of 91% in previously planted areas, underscoring the effectiveness of Maynilad’s sustained watershed protection efforts.
“Planting is only the first step. What matters is sustained site protection so the trees can mature and strengthen the watershed,” said Atty. Roel S. Espiritu, Maynilad Chief Sustainability Officer.
In 2025, Maynilad partnered with two People’s Organizations—the Mt. Balagbag Farmers Association and the Briquettor Association of the Philippines—and engaged volunteers from private companies and media groups to support its reforestation activities.
The Plant for Life program forms part of Maynilad’s comprehensive watershed protection strategy, aimed at safeguarding raw water sources and helping ensure a stable water supply for communities within its concession area. Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It serves as the concessionaire of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, covering portions of Manila and Quezon City, as well as Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, and Malabon in Metro Manila. Its service area also includes the cities of Cavite, Bacoor, and Imus, and the municipalities of Kawit, Noveleta, and Rosario in Cavite Province.
