As part of its South Expansion Program, Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) is spending almost P273 million to lay more than 22 kilometers of primary and secondary pipelines in Muntinlupa City.
The project involves laying some 8 km. of primary pipes along Doña Anastacia Reyes Ave., Insular Prison Road, Sampaguita Road, University Road and C. Arellano St.; and 14 km. of secondary lines along C. Arellano St., F. Reria St. and Insular Prison Road.
Set to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2014, the project will help bring water to some 17,300 households in the area.
“This year, 40% of our capital investment budget has been allotted for service expansion in the south. By expediting these projects, we aim to address the continued dependence on deep wells and the minimal wastewater coverage in the area,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ricky P. Vargas.
To lessen inconvenience for motorists, Maynilad is closely coordinating with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the local government units of Muntinlupa and Las Piñas for the traffic re-routing schemes. All work sites will be fully enclosed by board-up barricades, with appropriate lighting and traffic/warning signs, to help ensure public safety.
Maynilad has earmarked around P7.2 billion to improve and expand water and wastewater services in Muntinlupa, Las Piñas, Parañaque, Pasay and parts of Cavite province. This is part of the P18 billion capital investment for the company since water services in Metro Manila were privatized in 1997.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the concessionaire of the MWSS for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon, all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
