West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) spent P23 million this year for the installation of 611 data loggers over 1,594 kilometers of pipeline, thus strengthening its capacity to remotely monitor water flow and pressure in the network.
Data loggers are instruments that digitally measure the flow and pressure of water inside the pipe and transmit this information for analysis to Maynilad’s central database. The more data loggers there are, the better the company’s ability to respond to pressure drops that could indicate supply distribution problems.
To date, Maynilad already has 2,500 data loggers installed in various points throughout its concession area. The installation of these loggers is a vital component of Maynilad’s supply management program, which aims for optimal water supply distribution to more than 9.8 million customers.
“Maynilad maintains an extensive pipe distribution system that conveys potable water to millions of households from North Caloocan to Cavite Province. Having the appropriate monitoring instruments in this system is essential to meeting our service level commitments to our customers,” said Maynilad COO Randolph T. Estrellado.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the concessionaire of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
