West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) is currently replacing two kilometers of old pipelines along Quirino Avenue in Parañaque City to enhance water distribution efficiency and support its non-revenue water (NRW) reduction program.
The ₱215-million project involves replacing sections of aging pipelines ranging from 100-mm with larger 800-mm pipes. The activity, which covers the stretch from Quirino Avenue Bridge (downstream) to Aldana Avenue in Barangay San Dionisio, began in December 2024 and is scheduled for completion by the third quarter of 2026.
Once finished, the upgraded pipe network is expected to recover around 2 million liters of water per day, benefiting some 43,000 residents of Barangays La Huerta and San Dionisio.
“This project is part of our continuing pipeline rehabilitation program to curb water losses and improve service reliability, especially in areas like San Dionisio that have long faced service challenges. By upgrading old, undersized pipes with larger, more durable ones, we can deliver stronger water pressure and more consistent supply to our customers,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez.
Since 2006, Maynilad has replaced 3,313 kilometers of old pipelines inherited from the government upon re-privatization—roughly equivalent to the distance between Manila, Philippines, and Tokyo, Japan
Pipe replacement activities form a key component of Maynilad’s NRW management program, which also includes meter replacement, active leakage control using advanced detection technologies, establishment of District Metered Areas, and network diagnostics.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the concessionaire of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
