West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad)’s energy efficiency was recently recognized by the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM), a global forum that promotes policies and programs to advance clean energy.
Maynilad earned the 2017 CEM Energy Management Insight Award for being an excellent case study on the process and benefits of setting up an energy management system certified to the global ISO 50001 standard—the global benchmark for climate and clean energy action.
The water company’s efforts to enhance its energy efficiency enabled it to register reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and other related environmental impacts. The company was also able to generate savings in its electricity consumption because of its energy-reduction program.
Maynilad’s feat on energy management on its multiple ISO 50001-certified sites—Head Office, La Mesa Treatment Plants 1 and 2, La Mesa Pumping Station and North C Annex, Villamor Pumping Station, PAGCOR Pumping Station, Pasay Pumping Station, and Tondo Sewage Pumping Plant—is now posted on the CEM website to serve as resource for other organizations interested in achieving significant and enduring energy and cost savings.
Maynilad is also among the 34 organizations—and one of two Philippine companies—worldwide that received the award, which was announced during the recent 2017 Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM8) in China.
“This CEM Insight Award is a validation of Maynilad’s efforts to efficiently manage its energy systems. We hope that other businesses will also implement process improvements to help meet global energy and climate goals,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the agent and contractor of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
