West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) was recently conferred a company-wide ISO certification by an international certifying body, making it the Philippine company with the most number of ISO certificates for multiple sites.
Maynilad’s total number of ISO certificates is now 150. Its company-wide ISO certificate covers 55 offices and facilities, including several corporate offices, Business Areas, materials depots (warehouses), pump stations, sewage treatment plants, and water treatment plants.
The certification audit for Maynilad’s Integrated Management System was conducted by TUV Rheinland Philippines. Passing the strict audit process confirms that Maynilad meets international standards for Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2008), Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001:2004) and Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems (BS OHSAS 18001:2007).
When a company conforms to international standards, it is an assurance to its customers of the quality of work and service the company provides. “These ISO certifications affirm that our efforts toward enhancing efficiencies and providing excellent services are working, that our processes are aligned with international best practices,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ricky P. Vargas.
Maynilad’s efforts toward company-wide ISO accreditation began in 2007, when its Dagat-dagatan Sewage and Septage Treatment Plant became the first wastewater facility of its kind in the Asia Pacific Region to receive triple ISO certifications.
Maynilad is also the first and only water company in the Philippines to receive the ISO 14064:2006 certification for the verification of its greenhouse gases or carbon footprint quantification and reporting initiative.
In his speech during the ISO awarding, Maynilad chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan said, “Beyond the significance of the award is the fact that Maynilad has performed beyond expectations. Looking back at year 2007, this is a much better company.”
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the agent and contractor of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
