West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) emerged as the National Capital Region (NCR) Champion at the recently concluded 10th Gawad Kaligtasan at Kalusugan (GKK) Regional Awarding.
The biennial national award is given by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to recognize establishments and individuals for responding to the safety and health needs of workers, workplaces and the community.
From the more than 200 institutions that competed, three Maynilad facilities were named champions under the "Institutional Category", namely: Fairview-Commonwealth Business Area, Central Depot Warehouse, and La Mesa Treatment Plant 2.
Meanwhile, Maynilad\’s Safety Head, Engr. Conrado Soriano, was declared NCR champion under the "Individual Category".
The GKK is a component of DOLE’s Zero Accident Program. Winners of the GKK are regarded as models on Occupational Safety, Health and Environment.
“It is heartening to note that the DOLE considers our safety practices as being among the best in the region. This will certainly motivate us to continue promoting the protection and welfare of our employees, contractors and suppliers,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez.
For the first time this year, the GKK winners are selected from the Regional and National Levels. As the NCR Champion, Maynilad will head to the last phase, which is the final judging and deliberation for the National GKK Champions in October.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the agent and contractor of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
