In its continued effort to protect the environment, West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) mobilized 130 participants to join this year’s International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) at SM By The Bay, Pasay City. The group successfully gathered 1,305 kilograms of garbage, including plastics and wood debris, during the cleanup drive, contributing to the global initiative to reduce ocean pollution.
Maynilad not only provided manpower for the activity but also supported the event by setting up hydration and washing stations at five cleanup sites— SM By The Bay, Baseco Beach, Las Piñas-Parañaque Wetland Park, Dolomite Beach, and Bagumbayan North Coastal Dike. To further assist volunteers, the company also deployed a shower trailer at SM By The Bay, allowing participants to freshen up after the cleanup.
“Protecting our water sources and coastal areas is critical to ensuring sustainable access to clean water, and our participation in the ICC reflects Maynilad’s commitment to environmental stewardship,” said Maynilad Chief Sustainability Officer, Atty. Roel S. Espiritu. “We are proud to be part of this global initiative and remain dedicated to contributing to the preservation of our ecosystems.”
Maynilad’s participation in the ICC is part of its larger environmental advocacy, which includes water conservation initiatives aimed at reducing plastic waste and promoting sustainable practices.
The ICC is the world’s largest volunteer effort to clean up oceans and waterways, with millions of volunteers participating in more than 150 countries.
