Maynilad implements P230M pipe projects in Bacoor

West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) is spending P230 million to lay some 6.5 kilometers of primary lines and 12 kilometers of secondary pipes along portions of Molino Road, Avenida-Rizal Road and Soldiers Hills Subdivision all in Bacoor City, Cavite.

Once completed, the pipe-laying project will enable Maynilad to provide safe, reliable surface water to some 8,500 households who currently source their supply from deep wells and private water tankers.

The infrastructure investment will also improve water availability and pressure for some 263 households in the area. From the current 5 hours, water supply will become available 24 hours a day, while water pressure will increase from 15 pounds per square inch (psi) to 16 psi.

To mitigate the impact of the project on the traffic flow in the area, pipe-laying will only be done from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., when vehicular traffic is light. Maynilad is also closely coordinating with the local government unit of Bacoor City to help manage the traffic flow along the projects.  The work sites will likewise be fully enclosed by board-up barricades, with appropriate lighting and traffic/warning signs.

“We are committed to serving unconnected communities in our concession area, especially those who get their water supply from expensive and unsafe sources. Right now, over one million people in the West Zone still do not have access to our services and we are doing everything we can to promptly address this situation,” said Maynilad president and CEO Ricky P. Vargas.

This year, Maynilad will invest approximately P7.63 billion to improve and extend water and wastewater services in the south of Metro Manila. Over P4 billion has been earmarked for wastewater management projects in the south, such as the building of Sewage Treatment Plants in Pasay and Muntinlupa, and conveyance systems in Muntinlupa and Parañaque.

Some P2.4 billion will be used to extend the company’s primary, secondary and tertiary water pipelines in Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Parañaque and portions of Cavite.

Meanwhile, P240 million will be used for projects designed to improve water availability and pressure, while another P194 million will go to water loss reduction in Bacoor, Muntinlupa and Las Piñas.

Maynilad is owned by the Metro Pacific Investments, Inc. (MPIC), DMCI Holdings, Inc. (DMCIHI), and Marubeni Corp. It is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is a concessionaire of the MWSS for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres & Sta. Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of the Holy Spirit & Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Pinas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon, all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
