Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) conducted a technical training session for almost 40 representatives of local and foreign water service operators on the management of Non-Revenue Water (NRW) or water losses.
After launching one of the largest and most ambitious NRW reduction programs in Asia, Maynilad successfully brought down the water lost in its distribution network to 31% by the first half of 2014 from 66% in 2006.
Maynilad speakers focused on the company’s leak detection expertise and on the use of advanced technology to reduce water losses in the West Zone. Emphasis was also given on the importance of NRW reduction to enhance operational efficiencies and promote financial viability.
“We hope that other water operators can benefit from the lessons and successes we have achieved in managing our water losses. Through this exercise, we also get to exchange knowledge and best practices from operators around the globe,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ricky P. Vargas.
The workshop was conducted as part of the WaterLinks Forum 2014 recently held at the Crowne Plaza Manila. WaterLinks is an organization that facilitates water operator partnerships between water and wastewater service providers across the Asia Pacific region.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the concessionaire of the MWSS for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon, all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
