West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) was recognized for its best practices in energy efficiency and conservation at the ASEAN Energy Awards 2017 held during the 35th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting in Pasay City.
Maynilad’s La Mesa Treatment Plant 2 was declared winner under the “ASEAN Best Practices Competition for Energy Management in Buildings and Industries (Small and Medium Industry Category)”. Maynilad is one of only five Philippine companies to be recognized in the ASEAN Energy Awards 2017, which honored 86 companies and individuals from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore and Philippines.
Maynilad’s energy efficiency initiatives at the La Mesa Treatment Plant 2 at La Mesa Treatment Plant 2 – an ISO 50001:2011-certified (Energy Management System) facility- enabled it to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other related environmental impacts. The water company was also able to generate savings in electricity consumption because of its energy-reduction program.
“Despite our continued service expansion, we have registered energy savings and reduced carbon emissions through better operational efficiencies. This recognition from the ASEAN Centre for Energy inspires us to keep improving our business processes,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez.
Conferred by the independent intergovernmental organization ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), the ASEAN Energy Awards 2017 recognizes companies and individuals in the ASEAN region for their contributions in renewable energy, energy management, and coal resource utilization.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the agent and contractor of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
