West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) sent its engineers to Lanao del Sur to assist in the full recovery of war-stricken Marawi City through the provision of technical expertise in rehabilitating its water system.
Maynilad was commissioned by International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), in coordination with the Marawi City Water District and Task Force Bangon Marawi, to conduct a study on Marawi City’s current pipeline condition, distribution network, and water quality. The engineers were also tapped to conduct a general assessment of damages sustained by the water infrastructure during last year’s armed conflict.
Findings and recommendations from this study will allow for the creation of a hydraulic model to be used for the repair and construction of the water supply system in Marawi City, which will benefit almost 38,000 residents of 96 barangays.
The Maynilad engineers sent to Marawi City conducted GPS mapping, basemap satellite imaging and digitizing, Non-Revenue Water (NRW) assessments, data log installations, and water quality testing and monitoring.
“Our desire to be part of the sustained effort for Marawi’s recovery has been realized through this project. We are happy to contribute in any way we can, and we hope to be of further help to the government by being part of actual rehabilitation works on Marawi City’s water supply system,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez.
Last year, Maynilad sent a mobile water treatment plant to Marawi to provide potable water for troops of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and for displaced families in the evacuation areas. It also gave 1,500 pieces of bottled water and 150 portable water microfilters.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the agent and contractor of the MWSS for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and, Malabon, all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta, and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
