West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) expanded its water service connections to 1,386,504, after connecting 753,206 service accounts or over 5.2 million customers since the company’s re-privatization in 2007. With its increased service connections, Maynilad now provides potable water to more than 9.5 million people—an increase of 55% from the 6.1 million customers it served 11 years ago.
For the first half of 2018 alone, a total of 28,641 new service accounts were added to Maynilad’s distribution network. These new connections were mostly in Bacoor City (Mambog and Molino), Imus City (Malagasang and Pasong Buaya), Caloocan City (Camarin, Deparo and Tala), and Valenzuela City (Bignay, Karuhatan and Ugong).
Around 98% percent of Maynilad customers have 24-hour water supply—up from only 32% who enjoyed the same service level in 2006. Moreover, 100% of Maynilad customers receive their water pressure at the average pressure of 7 psi (pounds per square inch). At 7 psi, water supply can reach the second floor of a building without the aid of a booster pump.
“Having access to potable water should be the least of our customers’ concerns. Hence, we continue to lay the pipelines that will enable is to connect the most far-flung areas in our concession where people still rely on deep wells or expensive water deliveries from vendors,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez.
For 2018, Maynilad has earmarked more than P9 billion for capital expenditure projects, of which P6.6 billion will be for water infrastructure investments. This includes service expansion programs, such as the laying of new pipelines that will connect still-unserved areas to Maynilad’s distribution network.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the agent and contractor of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
