West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) connected more customers in Cavite after taking over the water systems of 33 subdivisions in Bacoor and Imus last year. This expansion added a total of 5,985 additional household connections to Maynilad’s water distribution network.
As a result, about 36,987 people who used to rely on deep wells and shallow wells now enjoy potable, piped-in water supply from Maynilad 24 hours a day, at a strong pressure ranging from 7 to 16 psi (pounds per square inch).
“We remain committed to our service expansion in the southern portion of our concession area, where many residents still use groundwater rather than surface water from Maynilad. For 2016, we allotted P743 million to expand water services in Cavite alone. In this way, we hope to improve the living conditions of communities that still rely on deep wells,” said Maynilad president and chief executive officer Ramoncito S. Fernandez.
Over-extraction of groundwater has negative environmental consequences, such as land sinking and salt water intrusion into water tables. Various health risks have also been associated with the prolonged use of untreated water from deep wells.
In Bacoor City, the subdivisions that have been connected to Maynilad’s distribution network are Manhattan Private Residences, San Carlos Subdivision, Wood Estate 1, Kaunlaran 2, Casimiro Townhomes Habay, Woodcrest, Coastal Woods, Duplex Homes, Likha Village, Max’s Village, and Casimiro Westville Homes P1-5.
Maynilad’s service expansion has also reached the following subdivisions in Imus City: Pillars Executive Homes, Bagong Anyo, Villa Nicasia 2, Virra Homes, Sauler, Margelow, Villa Elisa, Balimbing Drive, Dreamville 2&3, Dreamville 5, Greenfield, Balimbing, Abad Homes, Juliard, Rufel & Barzaga Homes, Villa Lasquete, Legian 1, Metroville, Chateau L’ Ermitage, Grand Residences, Regatta West, Alfonso, and Marycris Complex Phase 5.
This year, Maynilad earmarked ₱1.191 billion for its water expansion projects in Valenzuela, Las Piñas, Parañaque, Muntinlupa, and Cavite. These projects include the laying of new pipelines, as well as the repair and maintenance of existing pipelines, among other initiatives.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the agent and contractor of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
