West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) is facilitating its conduct of pipe inspections or “network audits” that aim to diagnose pipeline conditions and isolate the possible location of leaks. For 2023, the company is targeting to cover more than 5,870 kilometers of primary and secondary lines for its network audit. As of April 2023, Maynilad has already inspected around 2,100 kilometers of pipelines, primarily in Caloocan, Manila, Valenzuela, Las Piñas and Parañaque. The photo shows Maynilad engineers using state-of-the-art acoustic leak detection equipment to pinpoint suspected pipe leak locations underground.
This initiative is part of Maynilad’s Non-Revenue Water (NRW) Management Program that seeks to reduce losses in the distribution system. The program also includes meter and pressure management, active leakage control, selective pipe replacement, and District Metered Area (DMA) management. The company has already spent over ₱50 billion for NRW reduction since 2007, and is allocating almost ₱4 billion for 2023 alone.
