Dr. Francisco Castillo, Chief Information Officer of Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad), shared how digital transformation enabled the water company to sustain operations amid the COVID-19 pandemic during the recently concluded Intel Industrial Summit 2020.
The virtual event featured some of Asia Pacific’s information technology experts as they talked about the tools, trends, and technologies that their companies used in addressing the biggest challenges facing businesses today.
In his speech, Castillo cited how technology enabled Maynilad to quickly adapt to “new normal” work conditions following the implementation of the community quarantine in Metro Manila. “In a very short period of time, we had to enable over 2,000 employees to work from home or work remotely. That meant being able to remotely access our communication tools, our servers, and our network in a very secure way,” he said.
This initiative, Castillo said, included enabling employees to continue troubleshoot activities and facility monitoring without negative impact on security.
Castillo, two-time “ASEAN CIO of the Year” awardee (2013 and 2016), has been instrumental in transforming Maynilad’s IT system, which now enables more accurate data capture and reporting, improved data storage, and enhanced efficiencies in business processes.
The Intel Industrial Summit 2020 is an inaugural digital event that showcased some of today’s best smart-industrial technologies before a targeted audience of global analysts and senior business and technical decision makers across North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific.
