West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) taught proper handwashing to some 300 schoolchildren at Caybiga Elementary School in Caloocan, kicking off its month-long campaign for Global Handwashing Day (GHD) 2017.
Maynilad is set to visit a total of seven schools this month so it can reach some 2,000 elementary schoolchildren and teach them the value of good health and hygiene through proper handwashing. This it does through fun and engaging games, as well as the distribution of hygiene kits to the students.
“Children are particularly vulnerable to the spread of diseases. Through our Global Handwashing Day activities, we hope to impart health consciousness among the youth and encourage them to make proper handwashing a habit,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez.
Aside from the kick-off activity in Caloocan, Maynilad will also bring its GHD activity to schools in Las Piñas, Pasay and Valenzuela in Metro Manila, and in Tagaytay.
Maynilad is conducting this year’s GHD campaign in partnership with local government units, the Department of Education, Philippine Water Partnerships, National Water Resources Board, Local Water Utilities Administration, Polytechnic University of the Philippines-College of Mass Communication, Procter and Gamble, and The Philippine Star.
GHD is an international advocacy dedicated to promote proper handwashing with clean water and soap as an effective and affordable way of preventing diseases such as diarrhea and pneumonia. Held every October 15, GHD is celebrated in over 1,000,000 schools in 100 countries by 200 million people.
