West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) was recently awarded the ISO 14064:2006 certification for the verification of its greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory or carbon footprint quantification and reporting initiative. Maynilad first received the certification in March 2011, becoming the first water company in the Philippines with a certified Carbon Footprint.
This year marks the second time that Maynilad received the recognition from TÜV Rheinland Taiwan, Ltd., the auditing and certification entity for GHG inventory. To date, Maynilad is the only water company in the country to receive the ISO 14064:2006 certification.
“We are committed to optimizing the use of our resources while reducing our generated waste and controlling our emissions. Obtaining ISO certification for our carbon emissions inventory for 2010, 2011, and 2012 was very tedious but we are glad that our efforts paid off in the end,” said Maynilad president and CEO Ricky Vargas.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the concessionaire of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres & Sta. Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of the Holy Spirit & Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon, all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor, and Imus, the towns of Kawit, Noveleta, and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
