Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) continues to bring safe, reliable, and affordable water as it recently inaugurated another Samahang Tubig Maynilad (STM) community in North Caloocan – the STM NPC Palmera Annex.
Maynilad’s community development program provides poor communities the opportunity to manage their own internal water system and earn from it at the same time. By working on issues that hinder urban poor communities from being connected to Maynilad water lines, such as right-of-way conflicts, land disputes, limited finances of residents and prevalence of water retailer syndicates, Maynilad enables the disadvantaged to enjoy water fit for drinking at an inexpensive price.
Before the STM was established, the community had no water service connection. They relied on water vendors that sold them water P30 to P35 per drum. With the water from Maynilad, residents only pay an average of P70-P90 per month. The new STM will benefit approximately 300 households.
Aside from the benefit of clean water, the profits that the organization earned were funnelled into a community street/alley lighting project.
Maynilad’s pilot STM community is in Tondo, which benefits more than 1,000 households. Last year, the West zone concessionaire launched four other STMs from Gawad Kalinga villages in Bagong Silang, Caloocan City. Over 400 families benefited from the project.

(Maynilad) provides water and wastewater services to the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres & Sta Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of the Holy Spirit & Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Hi-way), Caloocan, Pasay, Paranaque, Las Pinas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; Cavite City, and the towns of Bacoor, Imus, Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
