In preparation for the dry season, West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) is enhancing its fire prevention and emergency response measures to support communities and firefighting operations.
Maynilad maintains approximately 4,500 fire hydrants across its 7,915-kilometer distribution network, ensuring their full functionality through regular inspections and maintenance. To assist in firefighting efforts, the company provides the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and local government units (LGUs) with hydrant location maps, monitors water pressure at fire sites, and maintains direct communication lines with emergency responders.
To further improve emergency response, Maynilad conducts joint inspections with the BFP, distributes hydrant keys to firefighters for quick access, and deploys water tankers to areas requiring additional supply.
Recognizing the challenges of firefighting in congested areas, Maynilad has introduced fire trailers designed for narrow streets and alleys where fire trucks cannot enter. The company previously donated five 1,000-liter fire trailers to communities in Muntinlupa, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Pasay, and Imus, with more units set for distribution this year. Each trailer is equipped with a 20-meter adjustable hose, solar-powered lights, and a five-horsepower pump capable of projecting water up to 70 feet—reaching up to the seventh floor of a building. These lightweight and maneuverable fire trailers enable faster response in congested areas.
To support sustainable firefighting efforts, Maynilad also allows the BFP—through memoranda of understanding (MOUs)—to access treated wastewater for firefighting. This initiative optimizes water resources by reducing reliance on potable water while ensuring effective firefighting operations. Other agencies, including select LGUs and the MMDA, also utilize this resource for emergency response.
“Beyond providing water through fire hydrants, we are committed to supporting firefighting operations in ways that conserve water and enhance emergency response,” said Maynilad Chief Sustainability Officer, Atty. Roel S. Espiritu.
Through these initiatives, Maynilad continues to strengthen community fire response while ensuring the efficient use of water resources in emergencies.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire of Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) in the Philippines in terms of customer base. Its service area includes the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres and Sta. Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of Holy Spirit and Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, and Malabon, all in Metro Manila; and the cities of Cavite, Bacoor, and Imus, and the municipalities of Kawit, Noveleta, and Rosario, all in the province of Cavite.

Maynilad performs quarterly inspections in coordination with the Bureau of Fire Protection to ensure hydrants remain fully operational for emergencies. To support firefighting efforts, the company provides hydrant keys to firefighters for quick access. This initiative is especially critical during Fire Prevention Month and the summer season, when fire incidents are more frequent.
