All of Maynilad’s customers in Muntinlupa have 24-hour water supply at a pressure of at least 7 pounds per square inch (psi). It takes about 7 psi for water to reach the second floor of a building.
The dramatic improvement in water coverage and service levels came after Maynilad spent some P5.8 billion to lay 165 kilometers of new pipes in Muntinlupa. The water company also repaired 5,500 leaks since 2009 and replaced 1.3 kilometers of old pipes in Muntinlupa to recover more water for redistribution to its customers.
Before Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC) and DMCI Holdings Inc. (DMCIHI) took over Maynilad in 2007, Muntinlupa residents relied mostly on irregular and expensive water delivery services and groundwater from private deep wells. Only 76% of those connected to Maynilad had 24-hour water service, and a mere 44% received their supply at 7 psi pressure.
“The communities in Muntinlupa have waited decades for clean, affordable water. We\’re very glad that our infrastructure investments are now paying off, and that we can finally serve them,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ricky P. Vargas.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is a concessionaire of the MWSS for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres & Sta. Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of the Holy Spirit & Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Bacoor, Cavite and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
