West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) scored a 100% satisfactory compliance rating at the latest monthly water quality report of the Department of Health (DOH), confirming that the water it distributes meets the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water (PNSDW).
Maynilad closely monitors its water treatment process to ensure that its supply passes quality and safety standards.
In 2009, the company obtained Integrated Management System (IMS) certification for its La Mesa Treatment Plants 1 and 2, proving that the facilities’ systems and procedures meet stringent international standards for quality, environment, and occupational safety and health.
Maynilad likewise monitors its supply at various points in its distribution pipeline. The company regularly samples and tests water from 832 sampling points that include schools, hospitals, residences and other institutions.
“We take seriously our mandate to provide potable water to our customers. In fact, while we are only required to monitor 724 sampling points, we took it upon ourselves to expand our scope by over a hundred more,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ricky Vargas.
The water quality report is regularly prepared by the the Metro Manila Drinking Water Quality Monitoring Committee (MMDWQMC), which is composed of representatives from the Department of Health (DOH), various Local Government Units (LGUs) in the metropolis, the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), the National Water Resources Board (NWRB), the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) Regulatory Office, and its two concessionaires. The health guidelines for the PNSDW are based on World Health Organization (WHO) standards.
Maynilad is owned and managed by DMCI-MPIC Water Company, Inc. (DMWCI), a joint venture between Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC) and DMCI Holdings, Inc. (DMCIHI). It is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base.
A concessionaire of the MWSS for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, Maynilad which is composed of the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres & Sta Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of the Holy Spirit & Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Hi-way), Caloocan, Pasay, Paranaque, Las Pinas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; Cavite City, and the towns of Bacoor, Imus, Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
