PLANT OPERATOR

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Monitors hourly treatment chemical consumption to ensure chemical feed rates correspond to the recommended dosage and flow of raw water less the leaks and losses for accurate treatment and efficient results of water quality.
  • Inspects and reports major/minor defect/damage of equipment/instruments duty for immediate action to minimize downtime. Carries out basic troubleshooting when necessary and with coordination from the WSO Shift Officer.
  • Maintains workstation cleanliness, orderliness, and safety. Performs steward functions such as the proper storage and maintenance of hand tools and equipment, which includes, but are not limited to, pliers, wrenches, vise grips, chlorine special tools, and, breathing apparatuses.
  • Monitors and operates chemical feeding equipment, accessories, and facilities based on the set working limits and the optimum dosing of chemicals per hour in compliance with the quality plan control parameters.
  • Monitors the effect of chemicals applied through visual inspection in the different stages of the process and through chemical consumption, which is manifested in the actual monitoring on hand per shift.
  • De-clogged plant inlet screen on the first hour of the 6-2 shift and to perform scheduled sludge extraction or when the need arises, especially during very high turbidity.
  • Dismount empty chlorine cylinders and mount full chlorine cylinders, making sure that the copper tubing used is tested to be free of leaks and clogging.
  • Monitors and records the performance and status of vacuum pumps, air compressors, pulsation settings, scour air blowers, backwash pumps, service water pumps, and flash mixers, and records equipment control readings at motor control center # 1 and determines if they are within working limits; otherwise, report to the Shift Officer immediately any defects for immediate action.
  • Throttles 2.2 m full by-pass when the booster reservoir elevation is critical.
  • Visually inspects the status of clarifiers, filter basins, concentrators, and sludge extraction valves and reports immediately to Shift Supervisor on duty for any abnormalities.
  • Reports any minor or major damage to the WP Officer on duty for immediate action to minimize downtime.
  • Adjusts North and South radial gates and operates/maintains recovery pumps of the required volume of recovered water as instructed by the Shift Supervisor.
  • Measures and records the Loss of Head (LOH) of twenty-four filters, north and south basin elevation, wet well and junction box water surface elevation (for LMTP 1), and of (20) filters and elevation on inlet V-structure (for LMTP 2)
  • Undertakes flushing and cleaning of feed line daily to perform sludge extraction, clean distribution boxes and preparation tanks weekly, and store tanks twice a year. To upkeep cleanliness of equipment, facilities, and working area per shift.
  • Oversees chemical deliveries and visually verifies their accuracy, authenticity, and quality.
  • Operates heavy equipment such as cranes, mechanical rakes, and mobile machinery. Performs filter washing procedures, basin desludging protocols, and sludge treatment activities. Facilitates generator set activities, and fuel deliveries.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL LICENSES
  • Graduate of any technical/vocational course or at least two years in college
WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Preferably with one (1) to three (3) years of related work experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
  • Basic reading, writing, and analytical required
  • Can perform various mathematical functions
  • Has the ability to perform assigned task with ease
  • Computer literate
