ADVISORY TO MAYNILAD CUSTOMERS IN PARAŇAQUE, LAS PIŇAS, MUNTINLUPA, AND CAVITE

An unusual algae proliferation was observed in Laguna Lake since April 23, 2019. The algal bloom was due to the warmer temperature brought about by the mild El Nino that we are experiencing right now.  Excessive algae require additional cleaning and de-clogging of Maynilad’s two Putatan water treatment facilities. We have started implementing remedial measures to address the issues brought about by the current algal bloom; unfortunately, we are still constrained to reduce the water production in our Putatan Facilities.
 
Last April 27 to 28, 2019, Maynilad customers located in certain parts of Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa and Cavite experienced intermittent water supply. We have provided tankering services to mitigate the impact of the reduced water production on those areas.
 
An update on the algal bloom showed that the situation at present will continue until the end of summer and will require the implementation of more radical measures, which means that the water production in our Putatan Facilities will be further reduced for the time being.
 
Consequently, portions of Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, and Cavite will experience low water pressure to no water supply starting today, April 29, 2019. This situation is expected to continue until May 14, 2019, when the full implementation of the remedial treatment interventions are expected to have already addressed the issues brought about by the algal bloom.
 
Rest assured that we are closely monitoring the water quality in Laguna Lake. We are likewise continuously finding ways to optimize the limited water supply during this time.
