Maynilad signed up for WWF Corporate Club membership to signify its commitment to nurturing the environment. As a Corporate Club Member, Maynilad will support WWF’s efforts to promote awareness of responsible environmental practice among stakeholders and other companies.
Early this year, Maynilad signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with PLDT-Smart, MWSS, DENR, the Local Government of Norzagaray, Bulacan, and the National Commission of Indigenous People (NCIP) to help reforest and preserve 30 hectares of adopted planting sites in the Ipo Dam Watershed in Bulacan, for the next three years.
Maynilad also maintains an “Asset from Waste” project, which involves converting septage and biosolids collected from septic tanks into a safe and cheaper alternative to chemical fertilizers. Pampanga and Tarlac farmers are supplied with this organic fertilizer to grow sugarcane in lahar-stricken areas. DENR Region III also signed an agreement with Maynilad to use the company’s biosolids in their urban regreening program.
“In this way, we managed to return the carbon to the soil for plant use and prevent it from escaping as greenhouse gases,” Maynilad’s Environmental Management head Francisco Arellano said.
Maynilad’s active stance in environmental protection is meant to ensure the sustainability and reliability of services to its over six million customers.
