Maynilad cuts daily water losses by more than 150 MLD year-on-year

West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) reduced its daily volume of non-revenue water (NRW) by more than 150 million liters per day (MLD) as of June 2026 compared with June 2025, making more water available for distribution to customers.

The recovered volume is equivalent to the output of a water treatment plant and can meet the daily water requirements of around 770,000 people.

The improvement was achieved through targeted leak repairs and rehabilitation of tertiary, secondary, and primary pipelines, with water loss reductions recorded across several areas within Maynilad’s concession.

“Reducing water losses enables us to make better use of the water already available in our system. This becomes even more important as we prepare for possible supply constraints associated with El Niño, since every liter we recover helps strengthen our supply buffer without requiring an equivalent increase in water production,” said Maynilad Chief Operating Officer Christopher Jaime T. Lichauco.

Maynilad’s average NRW level likewise improved to 31.5% in the first half of 2026, from 36.7% in the same period last year, reflecting continued progress in reducing physical and commercial water losses across its distribution network.

For 2026, Maynilad allotted ₱7.7 billion for its NRW management program, covering pipe and meter replacement, active leakage control, district metered area establishment and maintenance, and network diagnostic activities. The company is targeting an NRW level of 25% by 2027 as part of its MWSS-approved Business Plan. Based on its current performance trajectory, Maynilad is on track to end 2026 with an NRW level of about 25%, supporting its goal of achieving a 29% average NRW for the full year.

These interventions helped reduce Maynilad’s non-revenue water (NRW) volume by more than 150 million liters per day (MLD) as of June 2026 compared with June 2025, making more water available for distribution. The recovered volume can meet the daily water requirements of around 770,000 people.
