West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) engaged 3,788 high school students from 39 schools across six cities in its 2025 Wastewater Education Campaign, focused on strengthening understanding of wastewater systems and sanitation infrastructure.
The campaign covered schools in Valenzuela, Quezon City, Manila, Pasay, Parañaque, and Muntinlupa, introducing students to sewage collection and treatment processes, sewer network operations, and the role of wastewater management in protecting public health and waterways.
Students participated in interactive discussions on treatment processes and sewer system challenges, while highlighting the role young people can play in shaping sanitation practices within their households and communities.
“Early understanding of wastewater systems helps reinforce responsible sanitation practices and appreciation of how these systems protect communities and the environment,” said Maynilad Wastewater Management Head Engr. Zmel Grabillo.
In addition to school-based sessions, Maynilad conducts wastewater briefings for barangay officials and residents living near Water Reclamation Facilities, covering wastewater operations, safety procedures, and emergency preparedness during extreme weather and other incidents.
Launched in 2016, Maynilad’s Wastewater Education Campaign is an annual program that has reached thousands of students across the West Zone. The company will continue implementing the campaign in 2026 as part of its wastewater management initiatives.
