West Zone water concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) was recognized for its outstanding environmental and social efforts, receiving the “Excellence in Environmental & Social Sustainability (Water Utilities)” award for its Plant for Life Program (PLP) at the inaugural Triple P Sustainability Awards, recently held at the Marriott Hotel, Pasay City.
The Plant for Life Program seeks to restore critical watersheds that supply water to Metro Manila and surrounding provinces through large-scale reforestation. As part of the program, Maynilad collaborates with local volunteers and various organizations, as well as the Dumagat community in the Ipo watershed, who maintain a tree nursery as an alternative livelihood to traditional slash-and-burn practices.
Since its inception, PLP has led to the planting of over one million trees. This initiative has enabled Maynilad to reduce its annual carbon emissions by approximately 33,000 tons, supporting the company’s sustainability goals and commitment to climate action.
“We are grateful for this recognition from the Triple P Awards, which inspires us to further our mission of protecting the environment for the benefit of current and future generations,” said Maynilad Chief Sustainability Officer Atty. Roel S. Espiritu.
Organized by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines, the Triple P Awards honor companies demonstrating excellence in People, Planet, and Prosperity through impactful sustainability initiatives. Maynilad’s Plant for Life Program stood out for its significant contributions to preserving vital water sources and promoting community engagement in environmental stewardship.
