Company Overview

  • Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) is the water and wastewater services provider for the West Zone of the Greater Metro Manila area. It is the largest water concessionaire in terms of customer base in the Philippines.
  • Maynilad is managed by Maynilad Water Holding Company, Inc., which is owned and operated by Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC), DMCI Holdings Inc. (DMCI), and Marubeni Corporation. The MPIC-DMCI consortium took control of Maynilad on January 24, 2007.
  • Under the Revised Concession Agreement signed on May 18, 2021, Maynilad transitioned from being merely an agent and contractor of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) to a full-fledged public utility (PU). This classification was formalized through Republic Act 11600, which granted Maynilad a franchise to operate until 2046.
  • Maynilad’s concession area covers 540 square kilometers, including the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, and Malabon in Metro Manila, as well as Cavite City, Bacoor, Imus, and the municipalities of Kawit, Noveleta, and Rosario in Cavite Province.

 

Remarkable Growth and Performance Improvements. Since the re-privatization of Maynilad in 2007, the company has significantly improved its service coverage, infrastructure, and operational efficiency. Below are the key metrics demonstrating its growth:

  • Water Service Coverage
    • In Terms of Percentage: Expanded from 77.80% in 2006 to 94.86% in 2024
    • In Terms of Population: Increased from 6.1 million in 2006 to 10.6 million in 2024
  • Water Infrastructure Expansion
    • Water Pipelines: Grew from 4,576 kilometers in 2006 to 7,914.08 kilometers in 2024
    • Water Treatment Plants: Increased from two in 2006 to eight in 2024
    • Water Treatment Capacity: Expanded from 2,400 million liters per day (MLD) in 2006 to 2,877 MLD in 2024
    • Reservoirs: Increased from 10 in 2006 to 39 in 2024
    • Water Storage Capacity: Expanded from 400 ML in 2006 to 779 ML in 2024
    • Pumping Stations: Increased from eight in 2006 to 39 in 2024
  • Water Pressure and Supply Reliability
    • Customers receiving at least 7 psi water pressure grew from 45% in 2006 to 98.09% in 2024
    • Customers with 24-hour uninterrupted water supply increased from 32% in 2006 to 98.09% in 2024
  • Non-Revenue Water (NRW) Reduction
    • NRW, which stood at 66.40% in 2006, was successfully reduced to 38.39% in 2024—a remarkable 42.1% improvement
  • Wastewater and Sanitation Expansion
    • Sewerage Coverage: Increased from 6% in 2006 to 34.95% in 2024
    • Sewerage Pipelines: Expanded from 425 kilometers in 2006 to 651.71 kilometers in 2024
    • Sewage Treatment Plants: Increased from one in 2006 to 21 in 2024
    • Septage Treatment Plants: Introduced and expanded from zero in 2006 to one in 2024
    • Combined Sewage and Septage Treatment Plants: Increased from one in 2006 to two in 2024
    • Total Wastewater Treatment Capacity: Increased from 458,450 cubic meters per day (CMD) in 2006 to 734,707 CMD in 2024
