Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) is investing some P17.3 billion this year for water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
More than P6.5 billion—or over one-third of Maynilad’s capital expenditure program—has been allotted for wastewater management projects. This includes the construction of wastewater treatment plants and conveyance systems in Cavite and Central Manila.
To further reduce water loss in the distribution network, almost P3.2 billion has been set aside for Maynilad’s Non-Revenue Water (NRW) reduction program. This covers active leakage control, primary line assessment, selective pipe replacement, and District Metered Area management.
Another P2 billion has been budgeted for the development of water sources, including the 2nd Phase of the Angat-Umiray Transbasin Tunnel and the rehabilitation and upgrades of existing facilities in the Angat and Ipo Dams.
To help ensure sufficient water supply and pressure in the West Zone, P1.5 billion has been earmarked for constructing, rehabilitating and upgrading boosters, pumping stations and reservoirs.
Some P1.4 billion has also been allotted for service expansion projects in portions of Caloocan, Cavite, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Parañaque and Valenzuela. Meanwhile, more than P1.3 billion has been set aside to lay primary lines in Caloocan, Cavite and Pasay that will connect more areas to Maynilad’s network.
Another P480 million will be spent for upgrades in Maynilad’s water treatment plants, while P290 million has been allocated for the modernization of the company’s data management and information systems. Almost P650 million will be spent for other operation support programs such as lot acquisitions for new facilities.
In the alternative business plan that Maynilad submitted to the Appeals Panel, the company recast its capital allocation to P67 billion from its original P78 billion budget for the 2013–2017 period.
“Despite having recast our five-year investment program, our planned capital expenditures for the West Zone will still enable us to meet our service obligations to our customers and the government,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ricky P. Vargas.
Maynilad is an agent and contractor of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain areas), Quezon City (certain areas), Makati (certain areas), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon—all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario—all in Cavite Province.
