MAYNILAD has totally replaced the old and leaking pipelines of six barangays in Pandacan, Manila, solving water quality problems in the area and enabling residents to enjoy 24 hours of strong water supply.
The P43.8-million project saw the laying of 4.768 kilometers of new pipes at Barangay 843 in Abdon, and 4.23 kilometers in Barangays 837 to 840 and 865 in Barrio Obrero, both in Pandacan, Manila. These areas have a combined estimated population of 15,732.
Maynilad South Manila Business Center zone 4 manager Randie Cinco said the project increased water pressure in the area beyond the average 7 psi. level, which rendered the use of booster pumps unnecessary.
“Households that used to have water for only a few hours each day now get reliable supply from their faucet 24 hours a day. Problems on water quality have also been eliminated with the replacement of pipes that were riddled with leaks and illegal connections,” Cinco said.
The project likewise increased the number of customers as residents applied for water service connections (WSCs) with the supply improvement. A total of 540 WSCs were installed in Abdon, while 1,208 WSCs were added in Barrio Obrero.
Interior 61 Pandacan resident Medy Balatico said the improved water supply made daily house chores easier.
House chores are a breeze for Interior 61 Pandacan resident Medy Balatico, who now gets water 24 hours a day at 7 psi. for only P200 monthly, compared to the P400/month she used to spend for water bought from vendors. The improved water supply and pressure was felt in six Pandacan barangays after Maynilad totally replaced old pipelines in the area. This project is part of Maynilad's planned investment in Pandacan, Manila, pegged at P188 million.
Teresita Tisado of Barrio Obrero also expressed happiness that she no longer has to stay awake at night to store water.
This project, Cinco said, is part of Maynilad's total pipe replacement project in the Pandacan area with a total investment cost of P188 million.
