10,000 Pasay City students now enjoy Maynilad water

TEN THOUSAND high school and elementary students in Pasay City now enjoy clean, potable water at the spanking new Pasay City National High School and Villamor Air Base Elementary School.

Through the joint efforts of the Pasay City government, Mega World, and Maynilad, the new school site located off the Villamor Golf Course was connected to the Maynilad network in time for the current school year.

Maynilad finished the commissioning of the water service in just one month in response to the call of Pasay mayor Peewee Trinidad, who stressed that the students must be provided with water once school starts.

According to Alicia Bañas, Maynilad's Program Management consultant, a new pipeline had to be laid from a different supply source so that the approximately 5,000 pupils of Pasay City National High School and 5,200 pupils of Villamor Air Base Elementary School would have continuous water despite the site transfer.

“Naturally, we don't want the kids to go through school without any water to drink or use for their daily needs. So we got into talks with Mega World, which agreed to shoulder the cost of laying a new pipeline leading to the schools,” she said.

From the original project estimate of P3 million for a new pipeline, Maynilad was able to trim down the cost to over P300,000, which Mega World promptly settled. This allowed Maynilad's contractors to start construction and finish within 30 days.

Trinidad thanked Maynilad for the speedy completion of the project. “ Ako ay nasisiyahan na ang Maynilad ay laging nakakatugon sa aming mga request. Sana ay maipagpatuloy pa nila ang puspusang pagtatrabaho para sa ikabubuti ng serbisyo patubig sa Pasay,” the mayor said.
