Maynilad surface water will soon flow to Cavite from Angat Dam in Bulacan

MAYNILAD has delivered on its promise to improve the water service in the southernmost portion of its West Concession with the recent inauguration of a project that conveys surface water all the way from Angat Dam in Bulacan to Cavite City and Noveleta in Cavite Province.

The Surface Water Supply Delivery project of Maynilad will solve the water woes of residents in these areas, who are currently being supplied with groundwater or deepwell-sourced water within a limited supply window.

According to Maynilad president Rogelio Singson, the company's new owners have invested heavily to ensure that these southern areas get treated surface water from the La Mesa Treatment Plants.

“ Itong proyektong ito ay ipinangako ng bagong Maynilad, na pinamumunuan ng DMCI at Metro Pacific. When they took over the company last January 1, 2007, nangako po sila na paabutin ang tubig dito sa south. Ito na po yun . For the first time, mapapaabot namin ang surface water sa Cavite City at Noveleta,” Singson said.

For Noveleta, a total of P246 million was spent to lay 3,472 meters of new pipelines along Magdiwang St. from San Juan St. to Noveleta Reservoir, and along Tirona Highway in Kawit, Cavite. Benefiting Cavite City, meanwhile, is another P105.5 million spent for a 1,013.5-meter line along General Tirona Highway, Kawit, Cavite. Two bridge pipe crossings spanning Panamitan and Malamok Bridge have also been constructed to complement the pipelaying.

With the commissioning of the project later this year, Cavite City will have an additional water supply window of 4 to 10 p.m. to augment their current water delivery schedule of 4 to 10 a.m. Noveleta, on the other hand, can expect enhanced water service as Maynilad expands its coverage to 17 barangays from the 11 currently being served.

Cavite City mayor Bernardo Paredes expressed his appreciation of the project, as it will curb the need for the digging of shallow wells and deepwells.

Noveleta mayor Enrico Alvarez also thanked Maynilad for prioritizing the project, saying that it will finally address to the town's long-term water supply problem. “I am giving the assurance that we will work hand-in-hand with your corporation in maintaining the new pipelines,” he said.
