Another deepwell deactivated by Maynilad, NWRB, QC government

IN a series of joint deepwell closing activities by Maynilad Water, the National Water Resources Board and Quezon City government, another permit-less deepwell, this time maintained by Water Fun Resort in Fairview, Quezon City, has been shut down for good last September 25, 2008.

For years, the five-swimming pool resort relied solely on groundwater for its daily water supply. Following the closure of its deepwell operation, Water Fun is now working on its application to get connected to Maynilad's surface water network.

NWRB engineers Nerizza Berdin and Jose Beltran supervise the decommissioning of Water Fun Fairview's deepwell.

With this development, an estimated 3,000 cubic meters is expected to boost the Fairview Business Area's monthly billed volume.

“We are doing our best to close as many deepwells as possible to help generate additional billed volume. We are now targeting at least two deepwells per month,” Key Accounts Management head Carlo Comsti said.

Quezon City Waterworks chief Robert Beltran said the city local government is bent on stopping the unauthorized use of deepwells by subdivisions and commercial establishments under City Ordinance 1682-S-2005, which seeks to stop the drilling of new deepwells, regulate existing ones, and penalize violators in the city.

Meanwhile, Key Accounts-deepwell supervisor Arturo Panergo is appealing for the support of all sectors of Maynilad in this effort to curtail the use of deepwells in the West Concession, especially in areas where abundant surface water supply is available.

“We ask for the help especially of the Business Areas in closely monitoring the monthly consumption of the closed deepwells, to ensure that the facilities remain deactivated, and we keep the additional billed volume,” he said.

QC Waterworks chief sign the NWRB seals placed on the control panel door.
