DEP-ED cites Maynilad for CSR Projects

January 01, 2014

The Department of Education (DepEd) cited West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) for the delivery of meaningful programs of intervention to public schools in the Greater Manila Area for the year 2013.

Among these initiatives include the Lingkod Eskwela project, which constructed drink-wash areas and helped refurbish the water and sanitation facilities of 180 public schools. Maynilad also launched the Daloy Dunong water education drive in 2012 to teach the students about the importance of water, hygiene and environmental conservation. Daloy Dunong has visited 90 schools to date.

Employee volunteers also adopt several public schools yearly for DepEd’s Brigada Eskwela where they do repairs, maintenance, and clean-up of campuses prior to the opening of classes. The company also leads the annual celebration of Global Handwashing Day by promoting proper hand washing and distributing hygiene kits to the students.

“Through the programs we implement together with the DepEd, we hope to impart valuable knowledge to the young generations so they can continue our efforts to promote access to clean water, health and water resource conservation,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ricky P. Vargas.

Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the concessionaire of the MWSS for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres & Sta. Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of the Holy Spirit and Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon—all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario—all in Cavite Province.
