November 12, 2013

West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) recently won the top prize in the Innovation in Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater Network Modeling and Analysis category of the Bentley Systems, Inc.’s (Bentley) Be Inspired Awards. The company’s “Remote Leak Detection through Hydraulic Modeling Project” bested 40 entries from around the world and is the sole winner from the Philippines.

The project demonstrated innovative and effective use of Bentley’s WaterGEMS Technology to allow Maynilad to determine where to concentrate leak detection operations in Tinajeros, Malabon. Through hydraulic network modeling and targeted leak repair, Maynilad was able to save more than $1.7 million (avoided cost of total pipe replacement). The project also improved water pressure for more than 3,000 households in Tinajeros and reduced water losses in the area.

“This award is a testament to our commitment and determination to find innovative and cost-efficient solutions for improving our water service delivery. As the name of the award states, we are inspired with what we have and what more we can accomplish in water-service delivery,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ricky P. Vargas.

The Be Inspired Awards showcases excellence and innovation in the design, construction, and operations of architecture and engineering infrastructure projects around the world. The Awarding Ceremony was held in London during Bentley’s Year in Infrastructure Conference, a global gathering of leading executives in the world of infrastructure design, construction, and operations.

Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the concessionaire of the MWSS for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres & Sta. Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of the Holy Spirit & Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
